A new narrative about the city of Stockholm, about the people and their identities, through a close reading of pizza menus, the names and the contents. One of the central pieces of the show is a large print called Pizza Moon, in which a grey moon with dark shadings is framed by a large black square. If you go close you will see that the moon is made up of names of pizzerias and pizzas: more than 300 000 characters and more than 500 pizza menus. The result is a kind of concrete poetry about longing but also the genius loci, the spirit of the place where the pizza is made and eaten, manifested in names like St Erik Eye Hospital or University College. Here you can also find madness and longing in names such as Inferno, Armagedon or The Beach.

HELSINKI PIZZA MOON / FINLANDIA
In 2019 I showed the works Helsinki Pizza Moon and Finlandia: Salami, Kinkku, Sipuli, Pekoni, Kanamuna at Galleria Oksasenkatu 11 in Helsinki. The sound work consists of a libretto, based on words, phrases and stanzas taken from collected pizza menus from the Helsinki area, sung by speech synthesizers in a variety of languages to an orchestral recording of Sibelius's Finlandia. Finlandia is thus not only a national epic, it is also a pizza. Helsinki Pizza Moon consists of nearly three hundred pizza menus from the Helsinki area, printed and superimposed on the surface of the moon.
Amore Nostro Modo: an artist book project. Odysseus en route to Arlanda, Ösmo next to Palermo, Margherita meets Sjuksköterskan. By juxtaposing images from pizzerias and other fast food restaurants with poetry based on pizza names found in some of the more than five hundred pizza menus collected in the greater Stockholm area 2017-2018, Dan Lageryd’s ambition is to depict a city and its inhabitants in a time of increased movement and migration.

A filmic preservation of a highway system. A scan of the asphalt, emulsion to emulsion, pebble to pixel, strip to strip, kph to fps. In part an abstract film with a variable speed reflecting the rhythm of traffic.

Sjutton trappor uppför/nedför en brandtrappa. En skildring av kroppen i rummet, om kroppen och tyngdlagen. / 17 floors up/down a fire staircase. About life, about gravity and physicality.
"Dan Lageryd's video A / B shows a seventeen floors passage down a narrow staircase, followed by an ascent up a parallel staircase. The staircases depicted in A / B are isolated spaces, illuminated only by artificial light and with fireproof steel doors on every other landing. An emergency exit empty of personal belongings, the setting for the video does not so much indicate a place as it does a mere form. A form which, at the same time as providing the film's subject, outlines its choreography. On moving down the stairs, A / B displays the halting movement of two overlapping frames trying to meet each other, constantly reproducing the secluded space of the recording. While the incessant sound of footsteps on concrete keeps wiring back the viewer to the physical urban setting, one is tempted to wonder what kind of space it is that the video actually stages – rather than depicting any specific place, A / B seems to be offering its viewer a document over the ongoing process of producing and reproducing the very space of the recording."

A trip repeated ten times, each time with the camera pointed in a different direction. The panoramic reconstruction leaves the surroundings disjointed, both in time and space and the static nature of the architecture is no longer reliable. The noise of traffic and the engine multiplied by ten makes a roaring soundtrack.

An afternoon on the motorway, going nowhere. See the sun set over southern Stockholm's industrial area in 10 journeys made into one - a two hour drive pieced together into a five minute panoramic video collage. The image is constantly expanding and contracting, changing speed and focal point in an effort to keep time and space together.
Acquired by the National Public Arts Council (Statens Konstråd) in 2012.

Documenting the view from a hotelroom on the 13th floor overlooking Shanghai, the film concurrently presents six different views, filmed at six consecutive nights. The accompanying sound is a mix of racket from the street and noise from within the room, sirenes, car horns and fireworks mixed with television news on economy and a childrens choir singing ”This Land Is Your Land” by Woody Guthrie.
